Sunset at Clifton Beach

On Saturday (June 18, 2011), we all took a trip to Clifton Beach to watch the sunset. In fact, it was Frankie's first day with us - she arrived in the morning! Our house met up with some other volunteers and together we all headed out from Wynberg to Cape Town and the beach. In Cape Town, we bought some food and drinks to take with us.

We all sat on the beach for a while and some folks took naps. I took a book I've been meaning to read for years, and managed to get through a bit while sitting on one of the large rocks. It was generally a peaceful and relaxing time as we waited for the sunset.

Looking around, the houses were quite nice and it seems that this area may be quite affluent. I would guess the property here is quite expensive, as it lies on the coast and has Table Mountain for a backyard!

Here is a photo of everyone waiting for the sun to set. The bunch are on the beach in the bottom right region of the picture.

While sitting around, I tried to capture waves breaking on some rocks.

Soon, the sun was nearly setting and I tried to photograph the beautiful sight.

After the sun had essentially set, we headed to Camps Bay to grab some food and watch a rugby game that was on. On the way up from the beach, some of the girls pointed out a mist that had formed around the mountains.

We went to a nice Italian restaurant and I enjoyed some dinner - the sandwich I had for lunch was not cutting it. :p Over dinner Liam explained some of rugby to me and I finally began to understand the game. After dinner, we headed to a bar for the rest of the game and after that was done we headed home.

It had been a beautiful day to watch the sun set over a gorgeous part of Cape Town. It was interesting to note, however, that this area stood in contrast to Parkwood, where we are staying. The style and scale of the housing, as well as the people we saw, were quite different. Indeed, though these areas are just a short train ride away, they are quite different places.
