A trip up Table Mountain

On Sunday (June 12, 2011), I went to a church service with Lecia and Leslie and afterwards Bilal, Maja and I decided to venture up Table Mountain. The day was clear and warm - excellent conditions for the hike. On the train ride to downtown Cape Town, we ran into some other volunteers who were also planning on going up Table Mountain. Together we grabbed a taxi to the mountain base.

We headed up underneath the cable car, and when we reached our first trailhead stopped for a break.

We followed the trail around the mountain, heading towards Platteklip Gorge where we would begin the real ascent. On the way, we found a small waterfall.

Further down, however, we found a larger waterfall and headed a bit off the trail to find our way up there. I can think of no better way to describe it than to just show some photos of it.

After we had spent a while at the waterfall, we headed back onto the trail. Along the way we took some more photos. :D

Soon we began the upward hike to the top of Table Mountain.

Near the top we stopped to take a few more photos. Unfortunately, I don't think these pictures quite capture the view. It was amazing!

The face of the mountain near the top had some interesting formations.

Finally, we reached the peak and got a grand view of Cape Town and the sea.

After taking a look around, we headed over to the restaurant located at the cable car's mountain destination. We ate, looked around a bit more, then headed back down to the base via cable car. From there we grabbed a taxi and headed home. Turns out our taxi driver was actually a refugee who was having trouble getting all the proper papers and so Bilal talked to him about coming into the Human Right's Office to recieve some help. He dropped us off in Wynberg, and we grabbed a mini-bus home.

The trip up Table Mountain was wonderful and I have actually made another trip since!
