On Sunday (July 3, 2011), a couple of us went on a trip to visit Cape Point, which I believe is part of Table Mountain National Park. After a long drive along the coast, we finally arrived and from the parking lot could see the famous Cape of Good Hope.
Unfortunately, we found out that we needed to leave by sunset, or end up stuck there overnight when the park closed. It was already in the afternoon and so it did not seem like we would be able to walk there. :(
Instead we were going to go see the lighthouse at Cape Point, another popular attraction. However, everyone was pretty hungry, so we decided to first have lunch at the Two Oceans Restaurant, named for the meeting of the Indian Ocean and the Atlantic Ocean.
The restaurant had a beautiful view of the ocean with Table Mountain on the side.
We also saw lots of signs warning us not to feed the baboons.
Unfortunately, however, a distant ostrich was the extent of our encounters with exotic animals.
Along the hike up to the lighthouse we got some gorgeous views of the Cape of Good Hope!
Soon enough, we reached the lighthouse.
At the lighthouse, there were some neat signs indicating the locations of other major cities and landmarks.
There was actually a rainbow that day. You can see it in this picture if you look carefully.
It seemed like it was time to go, but Frankie and I were dissatisfied to leave without going to the actual end of Cape Point. From the lighthouse, we could see a path leading further along.
There was not much time, so we decided to run! We got there and took some hurried photos. :D
We made it back to the parking lot in time and as we all drove away from Cape Point, the sun was beginning to set. It was certainly a beautiful day and I wish we had been able to spend more time there.
